Outer East Foodshare chosen as the face of Coles’ food relief appeal

Outer East FoodShare is thrilled have been chosen to feature in Coles’ Community Food Relief Appeal during August.

Co-founder and hub coordinator, Marilyn Lambert, can be seen on in-store promotional material, online and in Coles’ August magazine.

The Community Food Relief Appeal raises money for SecondBite and FoodBank, who distribute food to local organisations such as Outer East FoodShare to help people in need in their local communities.

The appeal also features well-known ambassadors such as Curtis Stone and Matt Preston.

According to the most recent Foodbank Australia Hunger Report, one in three households experienced food insecurity in the past 12 months.

“We are thrilled to represent the crucial work of food relief organisations and to have our work recognised,” Marilyn said.

Outer East Foodshare collects surplus food from local supermarkets and businesses and distribute it to 50 local food relief charities and agencies to feed 4200 people in the Yarra Ranges, Knox and Maroondah areas each week.

“Our two refrigerated vans collect food and bring it back to the hub each morning, where it is sorted out in time to be on families’ tables for dinner that night,” Marilyn said.

“Outer East Foodshare is 100% volunteer run and operates seven days a week. But we always need more help.

“We’re currently seeking donations to purchase a third refrigerated van, so we can get more food to more people in more places – especially in the smaller, harder to reach towns that experience higher levels of food insecurity,” Marilyn said.
